ABOUT OUR FEATURES:
POETRY AND CONTEST PUBLICATION: GAMES TO PLAY IN THE NIGHT
Writing poetry is a solitary endeavor, even when you are writing on bar
napkins. Entering contests and striving for publication is even lonelier.
Come hear tips to help your poetry win money and get published.
Presented by PAULINE MOUNSEY
Pauline
has been active in the local poetry scene for many years, giving readings,
lectures and running a monthly reading series. She teaches a poetry writing
workshop at a local community center. She is an educator by vocation and was
founding editor and continued to publish THE LUCID STONE poetry quarterly
for eight years until its demise in 2002. She is a member of The National
League of American Pen Women and Alpha Zeta Beta Sorority. Publication
credits include BLUE MESA REVIEW, CHIRON REVIEW and NATURAL BRIDGE.
DON’T DIE BEFORE I LOVE YOU
presents
poetry and dramatic monologues, which weave a narrative from the writer’s
earliest connections to her mother’s lively imagination and wit, through
their development of deeply held differences, to grudging acceptance of one
another’s beliefs and their final reconciliation in a hard-won but authentic
love. If you’ve ever found
yourself caught in the tension between loving your life and the family you
come from, you will find Don’t Die Before I Love You a heartfelt and
amusing story.
Presented by REGINA BLAKELY
The Scottsdale Center for the Arts commissioned her to write and perform
original work in response to James Turrell’s “Infinite Light” exhibit.
As Artist-in-Residence with Women in Tune, she narrated the Arizona
premier of Diane Benjamin’s “Where I Live: A Breast Cancer Oratorio,”
sharing the stage with a full choir, soprano, and stringed quartet.
Regina leads workshops using poetry and writing as a springboard to
reflection and self-discovery. Prior to finding her own voice on the page,
she studied theater and “the bard” with Shakespeare & Company in Lenox,
Massachusetts.
